As of now, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown. Preliminary information from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicates that the incident occurred due to an unspecified problem with the balloon’s envelope.

One of the victims, identified as Katie Bartrom, a 28-year-old nurse from Indiana, was among those who lost their lives. The crash occurred approximately five miles north of the city of Eloy, with the balloon descending quickly after experiencing a catastrophic issue with its envelope.

The balloon had a total of 13 occupants, including eight skydivers who successfully exited the balloon before the crash, completing their planned skydiving event. Unfortunately, the balloon crash resulted in the death of one individual at the scene, while others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Eloy Police Chief Byron Gwaltney provided additional details, mentioning that the skydivers aimed to land at the Eloy Municipal Airport, located near the crash site.
