Ubisoft+ Multi-Access and PC Access will now be consolidated into Ubisoft Premium, providing day-one access to new releases, early access where applicable, premium editions, monthly rewards, and more. Additionally, Ubisoft is introducing a new offering: Ubisoft+ Classics on PC, a handpicked collection of popular back-catalog and live games.
We interviewed Director of Subscription, Philippe Tremblay, to delve into the changes and reflect on the past four years of Ubisoft
What are the key distinctions between Ubisoft+ Premium and Ubisoft Classics?
Philippe Tremblay: Premium entails day-one access to new releases and, in some cases, early access to upcoming releases like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This is in addition to our extensive back catalog, offering access to premium editions, DLC, and monthly rewards across Xbox, PC, and Amazon Luna. A single subscription provides access to these games on all platforms, with a monthly fee of $17.99.
On the other hand, players can opt for Ubisoft+ Classics, featuring a curated selection of popular back-catalog games like Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs: Legion. This collection, included for PlayStation+ Extra and PlayStation+ Premium Members, is now available on PC through the Ubisoft Store for $7.99 per month.
How has Ubisoft evolved over the last four years? Have you seen significant subscriber growth year-on-year?
PT: Over the past four years, we’ve witnessed substantial growth, with millions of players and over 600 million hours of play. In 2023, we surpassed projections for new subscribers, and October saw the highest monthly active users since launch. We are delighted to observe players enjoying the service.
Which games are players spending the most time playing, and what insights does that data provide?
PT: While Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six lead the way, there is diversity in the top-performing games per platform, including both new releases and the back catalog. Recent additions like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and The Crew Motorfest have quickly become favorites.
What differences are you noticing in subscriber behavior compared to buyers?
PT: A notable observation is that subscriptions serve as an excellent avenue to introduce Ubisoft games to new players within the Ubisoft ecosystem. One in 10 subscribers is entirely new to Ubisoft games, showcasing the subscription model’s potential to broaden players’ gaming horizons.
Tell us about Ubisoft Classics and the curation process for that game catalog.
PT: Players are actively engaging with our back catalog through subscriptions. Recognizing this, we curated Classics to specifically cater to this catalog, providing a strong offer at an attractive price point. The catalog will continue to expand over time, allowing players to discover even more of our game worlds.
How does the rebranding impact current PC Access subscribers?
PT: PC subscribers will retain their existing plans with the same monthly price they currently enjoy.
With new releases available day one, how do you plan to address churn rates (users who cancel or unsubscribe)?
PT: The focus of is to build value by bringing more games to subscribers. The commitment to delivering an exciting lineup of early access and day-one releases, coupled with the eventual inclusion of the Activision Blizzard catalog, aims to provide a compelling reason for players to remain subscribed, along with perks and access to a diverse back catalog.
