Unveiling the 2025 McLaren Artura: Power Boost, Convertible Elegance, and Performance Enhancements”

Upon its debut, the McLaren Artura claimed the distinction of being only the second electrically assisted production car following the P1, and notably, the first V-6 crafted by the Surrey manufacturer. With its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine generating over 560 horsepower and soaring to over 660 hp when the axial flux motor engaged, the Artura made a mark. Now, as it steps into 2024, the Artura unveils a new feature, and that’s before the accelerator is even pressed.

The 2025 Artura brings a relatively modest yet noteworthy update: a power boost for its internal combustion engine (ICE). Elevating from 577 hp, the twin-turbo V-6 now churns out 596 hp and 431 lb-ft of torque. When combined with the electric motor, this McLaren supercar reaches a formidable 690 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. The result is a swift acceleration, propelling the 3,439-pound car to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds and conquering the quarter mile in a mere 10.8 seconds. While the power increase may seem subtle, existing Artura owners can benefit from this enhancement through an update from a McLaren dealer.

The next set of enhancements is experienced during driving. The exhaust note becomes more engaging and “sportier” when the ICE is active, thanks to a new resonator and redesigned upward conical exhaust tips. Additionally, a new “sports” exhaust system featuring a “symposer” is introduced to bring natural exhaust sounds into the cabin.

Shifting gears also gets an upgrade, with the eight-speed SSG gearbox shifting 25 percent faster than before. This improvement is attributed to “pre-filling” the gearshifts, ensuring that the system is ready to shift precisely when demanded by the driver. Although concerns about potential wear are unknown, this faster-shifting programming won’t accompany the new engine calibration for older Arturas.

The major announcement is the introduction of the Artura Spider, a convertible version alongside the coupe. McLaren claims that the Artura Spider will be the “lightest convertible supercar in its class,” weighing only 136.7 pounds more than the coupe. The drop-top version maintains rigidity, thanks to the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), designed to accommodate both body styles. Even with the top down, the Artura Spider retains structural integrity, with the “hot vee” engine vent chimney modified to allow for the powered hardtop to stow away for open-air driving.

The convertible’s roof retracts or returns in 11 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph, or remotely using the keyfob when parked. The solid panel roof can be upgraded to McLaren’s electrochromic glass, offering five different shade levels through electrical signal adjustment.

The 2025 Artura also introduces improved suspension and body details, enhancing its performance. Rear suspension sees revised damper valving, and the Proactive Damping Control boasts a 90 percent improvement in response rates. The electrical architecture is upgraded for enhanced data capacity and transfer speeds, utilizing improved ethernet communication within the body.

Brake cooling ducts have been modified for better thermal management, enhancing consistency and performance. The Artura’s ADAS package now includes standard lane departure warning and speed limit detection, with blindspot monitoring and rear-cross traffic becoming optional. The Bowers and Wilkins surround system receives upgrades with new rear speakers and a central speaker in the Spider.

The 2025 McLaren Artura Spider is available for order, with deliveries commencing in mid-2024. The standard version starts at $273,800, with three additional interior options available for an extra $9,400.
