“Tune into ‘Good Morning America’ to find out who it is,” Bettman mentioned during the first intermission of the Chicago Blackhawks-Edmonton Oilers broadcast. “I’m not revealing it right now.”
The 2024 NHL Stadium Series will feature two outdoor games in the regular season. The first game between the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers is set for Feb. 17 at MetLife Stadium, with the final game between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders on Feb. 18 at the same venue.
As part of the ESPN segment, Bettman fielded questions from fans, addressing topics such as the Arizona Coyotes’ search for a new home arena and rumors about the Washington Capitals relocating to a new venue in Alexandria, Virginia.
Dispelling relocation rumors, Bettman assured, “Nobody’s moving. We like where our franchises are.” Regarding the potential expansion of the league, Bettman mentioned wide interest from potential buyers in Quebec City, Atlanta, Houston, and Salt Lake City. However, he emphasized the league’s current contentment with its 32 teams.
The addition of the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken through expansion has been considered a significant success for the NHL. While rumors circulate about further expansion, Bettman stated that, for now, the league is focused on its existing teams.
