Björk and Rosalía have released their latest track, “Oral,” just over a month after its initial announcement. The proceeds from this song will contribute to the legal battle against foreign-owned salmon farming operations in Iceland, a cause championed by Seyðisfjörður residents. The collaborative effort was produced by the two artists in conjunction with Sega Bodega. The accompanying music video, directed by Carlota Guerrero, features Björk and Rosalía showcasing their sword-wielding skills.

This year has witnessed a surge in public outcry in Iceland regarding the environmental repercussions of salmon farms’ open-net pens. These pens are reported to pose a threat to the ecologically distinct fjords and native wildlife of the country.

In early October, Björk participated in a demonstration in Reykjavik alongside agricultural workers and other citizens. During the protest, some demonstrators symbolically dumped insecticide on fish carcasses laid out on the steps of Iceland’s parliamentary building.

Björk shared that she wrote the majority of “Oral” between her 1997 LP, Homogenic, and 2001’s Vespertine. However, the song’s original tapes were lost for two decades until she rediscovered them after spotting the word “oral” on TV while touring in Australia earlier this year. She expressed her fondness for the song, noting its upbeat and joyful character.
