Furthermore, the study found that one in three consumers feel that smart devices do not contribute value to their lives beyond entertainment. Despite these challenges, the overall uptake of smart home technology is on the rise across the United States. Connecticut, Utah, and Maryland lead the pack, with 28.2%, 27.8%, and 27.6% of their respective populations using smart technology.

Interestingly, Arizona, Connecticut, and Nebraska have experienced the most significant acceleration in smart home tech adoption, each reporting an increase of approximately 22%. However, some states lag behind in embracing this technology, with only 13% of Alaskans integrating smart technology into their homes. Mississippi, Hawaii, Wyoming, and Maine also exhibit low adoption rates, ranging from 14.2% to 15.9%.

The report highlights an “electrifying surge” in smart home tech adoption in the United States, with smart households growing from 6.9% in 2015 to 22.3% in 2023. The primary driving force behind this surge is the smart entertainment industry. Seventy-two percent of smart home users have embraced entertainment technology, such as smart TVs and virtual reality headsets.

Despite the overall positive trend, challenges persist in daily use, particularly in the realm of security systems, which were identified as the most problematic smart technology by one in five respondents. Nevertheless, the report concludes that smart home technology is a lasting trend in the U.S., and despite some consumer reservations, Americans are continually finding value in integrating it into their daily lives.
