We’re both in the same boat.’ I never felt from any of these people on this set that I was juniorized or that they didn’t respect me as a peer. It really, really meant a lot to me.”
The Netflix movie, directed by Sam Esmail, follows Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke as parents embarking on a weekend trip with their children just before a global disaster unfolds. Herrold, playing alongside Mahershala Ali’s character G.H., enters the storyline when they arrive at the house and claim ownership.
Surrounded by acting veterans like Kevin Bacon, Herrold acknowledged the valuable learning experience she gained from working with such seasoned professionals. “Leave the World Behind” is based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel of the same name, and its production team includes executive producers Barack and Michelle Obama through their company Higher Ground Productions. The film marks the company’s debut in narrative fictional features.
