As the housing crisis in the U.K. reaches its peak, there are currently no emergency housing options available through local authorities for veterans and service leavers suffering from complex PTSD.

On April 14, 2024, our fundraising event will take place in Merseyside. A group of veterans and volunteers will undertake a military march from Liverpool to New Brighton during the annual Merseyside 10k Event. This march, conducted in the traditional military style known as a “speed march” or “tactical advance to battle” (TAB), will raise funds through a crowdfunding page. All proceeds will be allocated towards providing accommodation for homeless ex-forces personnel and mental health support.

Veterans transitioning to civilian life often experience mental health difficulties, especially during sudden changes in circumstances, putting them at risk of homelessness or, tragically, suicide. With the cost of living on the rise, the voluntary sector is witnessing a surge in crisis cases.

The Block Armed Forces Foundation initiated its homeless prevention project in 2019, initially serving as a small community service aimed at assisting local ex-forces members during times of crisis. By offering emergency accommodation, fostering inclusivity, and providing a safe space among like-minded individuals, we equip our veterans with the necessary tools to navigate these challenging phases of their lives. The Block AFF has evolved into a registered charity and is now integrated into the government’s strategy to combat veteran homelessness in the U.K. (Op Fortitude).

Despite receiving support from major strategic pathways, The Block AFF has not received any government funding and currently operates at full capacity. There are no financial resources available to assist new crisis cases.

With our crowdfunding campaign and Aviva Community match fund now underway, it is imperative for the continuity of our operations to raise support. Your contribution will enable us to aid the next homeless ex-forces veteran who seeks assistance from The Block.

Through crowdfunding, we aim to raise £30,000 within 40 days to provide emergency accommodation and mental health support for over 120 homeless veterans in the next 12-18 months. Your generosity can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
