Users of a popular Grindr dating app can now easily obtain HIV testing kits directly through the platform. Grindr, the location-based meet-up app catering to gay and trans men, has collaborated with HIV Ireland to streamline the distribution of at-home tests. This initiative, initially launched in the United States, is expanding to Ireland as the first international location for its implementation.
The primary goal is to enhance the accessibility of self-testing, allowing individuals to test themselves at a location and time that suits them best, as stated by Stephen O’Hare, Executive Director of HIV Ireland. Ordering a test within the Grindr app is a quick process, taking less than three minutes.

In addition to the testing kits, users can access dedicated outreach and support services through HIV Ireland’s MPOWER program, specifically designed for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. This includes referrals for treatment if needed.
Jack Harrison-Quintana, Director of Grindr for Equality, expressed his excitement about launching this partnership in Ireland, emphasizing the importance of increasing access to HIV testing for Grindr users. The integration of in-app links to home test kits is highlighted as a powerful strategy for achieving this goal.
This initiative coincides with European HIV testing week. Apart from the in-app testing kit ordering, HIV self-tests are available at the Dublin Pride Hub, and rapid HIV tests are offered throughout the week at popular gay bars and community venues in Dublin, such as Pantibar, The George, and Outhouse.
